PRESS RELEASE: Avioxx commissions X25 reactor and scales up production of certified Jet A1

Cheshire, United Kingdom – 09th December 2025 – Avioxx Ltd has completed commissioning of its X25 reactor at the Advanced Fuels Facility in Runcorn.
The system is now fully operational and is producing certified sustainable synthetic crude aviation fuel from simulated waste-derived syngas. The fuel will be hydrocracked and distilled on site to Jet A-1 for clients’ research, demonstration and testing purposes.
The X25 converts clean compressed syngas into liquid hydrocarbons at roughly 25 times the scale of the existing Avioxx FT reactor. The process uses Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, hydrocracking and distillation. The platform will integrate a solid oxide fuel cell and an electrolyser to power the reaction, so the unit will not rely on grid electricity or external hydrogen. Software sits at the core of the X25 and now uses AI models to support control, monitoring and system learning.
The system includes an automated Jubalo temperature moderation system and a human–computer interface panel that allows engineers to view the process remotely. It integrates with the central control system, which is currently supported by Schneider Machine Expert and will be linked to the Aveva InTouch system for big data collection, machine learning and analysis.
Digital, automated and remotely accessible
The X25 operates on a modular digital control layer. AI models track system behaviour, adjust flows and confirm setpoints in real time. Operators can view and manage the system remotely, including alarms and optimisation settings. This supports decentralised and off-grid deployment and enables the production of affordable and ultra-clean jet fuel.
Next steps for the X25 system
Avioxx is now:
- Increasing production runs and scaling SAF output
- Preparing Tier 1–2 ASTM fuel qualification with Intertek
- Completing integration of electrochemical components to prove off-grid SAF production
- Installing further X25 modules to increase production output
- Progressing detailed design for the 5,000 tonne per year demonstrator
- Engaging with airlines, test centres and licensing partners
Avioxx aims to enable decentralised and commercially viable SAF production that becomes cost-competitive with fossil fuels at scale. By converting waste-derived gases into certified synthetic fuels through an integrated system that links gasification, FT synthesis, solid oxide fuel cells, electrolysis and a unified digital control architecture, Avioxx is bringing the future of sustainable flight a step closer.
